THE EFFECT OF THALASSEMIA EDUCATION DUE TO BLOOD TRANSFUSION COMPLIANCE ON SCHOOL-AGE CHILD WITH THALASSEMIA

Abstract

Thalasemia is an inherited disorder and classifed as hemoglobinopathy group namely abnormalities caused by hemoglobin system.Thalassemia shows typical symptom including pale,weak and appetite. Therapy given is only giving blood transfusions routinely throughout his life. Several factors causing non-compliance with blood transfusions are family, economic, education, accommodation, enveronmental and social support factors. This study aims to determine the effect of thalassemia education due to blood transfusion compliance on school age  child with thalassemia in mawar ward sayang cianjur general hospital, by using lecture media booklet, and film. The methode used quasi-experimental with a sample nonequivalent control group design with sample of 16 respondens used purposive sampling. Data were analyzed by univariate and bivariate with the dependent test (paired simple t test). The results of the study showed that there is the effect of providing thalassemia education package with a P Value of 0,001. It can be concluded that the administration of the thalassemia education packed due to blood transfusion compliance on school age  child with thalassemia. Suggestions based of the study it is recommended to the hospital management to carry out this thalassemia education package technique as one of the  way to conduct health promotion to motivate patients and families so that they can have regular blood transfusions. Further researchers should examine other variabels related to the effects of continuous blood trasfussions thaat caus iron or ferritin.
