Abstract

The activities of the Bina Lansia Village Student Association are a form of community service carried out as a promotive and preventive effort to improve the health of the elderly in Selacau Village. This activity is motivated by the high incidence of diabetes mellitus in the elderly as well as limited access to health checks and low public awareness of the importance of early disease detection. The objective of the activity is to increase the knowledge and awareness of the elderly regarding the prevention and control of hypertension and diabetes mellitus through health education and simple health checks. The methods applied include providing initial tests, blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks, hypertension exercises, health counseling, and a final test to result in increased participant understanding. The activities are carried out directly with an educational and participatory approach involving students and the elderly community. The results of the activity indicate that the entire series of programs can be implemented well, participants actively participate in activities, receive health checks, and experience increased knowledge regarding risk factors, prevention, and management of hypertension and diabetes mellitus. This activity also increases the elderly's awareness of the importance of regular health checks and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle. Thus, this activity provides benefits in supporting efforts to improve the health of the elderly while also serving as a learning tool for students in carrying out community service.
