THE INFLUENCE OF LOW CARBOHYDRATE DIET ON REDUCING BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE II DIABETES MELITUS AT MITRA KASIH HOSPITAL CIMAHI 2024

Abstract

Type II diabetes mellitus is a hyperglycemic disease caused by cell insensitivity to insulin. Reducing blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus sufferers can be done by reducing the intake of carbohydrates consumed daily. This study aims to determine the effect of a low carbohydrate diet on reducing blood sugar levels in people with type II diabetes mellitus at Mitra Kasih Hospital, Cimahi. This research method used a Quasy Experiment with a one group pretest posttest design. The number of samples in this study was 20 people suffering from type II diabetes mellitus with a Non-Probability Sampling sampling technique using a purposive sampling method. Data analysis uses the marginal homogeneity test. The research results show a significant value or p-value of 0.001 < α (0.05), so Ho is rejected or Ha is accepted. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of a low carbohydrate diet on reducing blood sugar levels in people with type II diabetes mellitus. It is hoped that this research will become a reference for nutritional intake that is beneficial for people, especially diabetes mellitus sufferers.
